The macrobrachium or freshwater prawn.

Macrobrachium, is a prawn native of the south-east Asia which live in fresh and brackish water.

The culture cycle must proceed in hatchery (brackish water obligatorily) and in farm (fresh or brackish water).

By its territorial behavior, the macrobrachium is a crustacean whose population do not grow in an homogeneous way. The grow-out have to be done with continuous selective fishing of the largest prawns.
