PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
May 2003 to April 2005.

Farm manager of the INDUSTRIA NACIONAL AGROPESQUERA SA's Shrimp Farm (110 Has); Dominican Republic. Operational, technical and production management. 

In charge of production. Increase of the annual production from 800.000 (in 2002) to 1'200.000 pounds (2004).  

In charge of the farm management (± 100 workers between fixed and day laborers), organizing, supervising operations. 

Purchasing administration, planning and ordering the shrimp food, staff payment control and warehouse organization. 

 

June 2002 - November 2002.

Production Manager of the shrimp farm GAMBALIT (225 Has), Ecuador. 

Relaunching of the shrimp production after a virus outbreak.  

Development of the production plans and expenditure and of the production strategy.

Eel grow-out in ponds.

 

May 2001 - April 2002

Project manager assistant for TRANS-GLOBAL AQUACULTURE, Ltd (Tampa, Florida, USA). Construction of a ± 500 has intensive shrimp farm + hatchery in Longwood, Clarendon, Jamaica W.I. 

Assisting in planning using Microsoft Project and technical supervision of the construction.  

Responsible for the local staff training. 

 

January 2000 - February 2001

Aquaculture Consultant Founding associate of www.noe-aquaculture.com

Consultancy mission to French Polynesia in Tahaa; site selection, feasibility and local market study for DYNAVIC. Site selection, pre-feasibility and local market study for a shrimp, tilapia and barramundi project. 

Responsible for starting up and technical-production management of the shrimp farm NARTIMA (140 has) owned by the Danish group ECPOMAR located in El Morro, Guayas (Ecuador). Shrimp culture in hypersalinity and white spot virus environment.

 

January 1999 to october 1999.

Assistant production manager in charge of ponds and crops management in the marine shrimp farm ALUFASA/GAMBALIT (220 Has) on the Mondragón Island in the Guayas River delta (Ecuador). 

Production management and planning ( production strategy, ponds management, feeding calculation, treatments, fertilisation, sampling...). Increasing in 17% the average ponds production.  

Organizing personnel, works and datas from the culture. 

Acclimatation and stocking of shrimp post-larvae (Litopenaeus vannamei). 

Quality control of fresh product before harvest (off flavor, texture). 

Implementing a laboratory (pathology, algae...). 

Planning prevention for White Spot Syndrom Virus. 

 

September to october 1998.
Technical advice for the shrimp farm PIMACA (270 Has) (Ecuador). 
Studying the problems of growing shrimps (Litopenaeus vannamei) in low salinity water. 

Recommendations to improve the water management, the ponds preparation and to implement a laboratory. 

Observation of the hatchery activities PESGLASA (60 M. de PL/month) in Engabao (Ecuador). 

Starting a maturation unit (1.500 breeders) for nauplius production. 

 

August 1992 to july 1998.

 

Counselor of the belgian technical co-operation agency and of the non gouvernemental organization Volens, employed by the Zamora Chinchipe Fishfarmes Association - Ecuador. Extension and development of the rural aquaculture. 
Supervision of fish culture mainly of tilapias (Oreochromis sp.) and in a menor scale of Cachamas (Piaractus brachypomus, Colossoma macropomum), Carps (Cyprino carpio) and Redclaws (Cherax quadricarinatus) and of the management of a communitary aquafarm. Average annual production of 9,5 T/ha. 

Support to the administration and accounting organization of the farm and for the creation of a saving and microcredits communitary program. 

Coordination of the agro-economic diagnostic of the project influence zone in collaboration with the rural technologies center CATER of the National University of Loja - - Ecuador. 

Training and formation of the local staff. 

Transfert of technology developed in the center to others farmers organization in the province. Polyculture and integración of aquaculture with poultry and pig farming. 

Creation of succesful proposals for various funding request. 

Production of Redclaw crawfish. Polyculture redclaw - tilapia. 

August 1989 to july 1992.
Director of the project "creation of a fish-culture center in Zamora Chinchipe" in El Pangui in the Ecuadorian RainforestAmazonie. This ± 450.000 USD project financed by the General Administration of Development Co-operation (Belgium) and the european organization Tilapia Food Aid Organization with the purpose to promote the rural aquaculture and to provide the local population with affordable animal protein. 
Technical direction of the 5 Has fish farm building with 37 ponds (2,7 Has) and 3 buildings. 

Responsible for the creation of the center. 

In charge of training the local counterpart (70 families). 

Introduction of analysis, planning and self-evaluation based on the PIPO planning methodology (planning of interventions by objectives).

February 1989.
Temporary guide at the Natural Sciences Museum of Brussels (Institut Royal des Sciences Naturelles de Belgique). 

Guiding visits at the "Dinosaurs Alive" exposition (1st time in Europe). 

 

October 1987 to october 1988.
NATO Officer; Second Lieutnant of Reserve of the telecomunication battalion in charge of the Staff´s Head Quarter of the Belgian Force in Germany. 

Chief of a platoon of 50 men and 25 vehicles. In charge of the execution of the orders received from the company chief.

Research work in intensive warm-water fishculture of tropical fish in the experimental aquaculture center of the Liège University - Tihange, Belgium consisting of: 
Support to the barbel reintroduction in the Ourthe basin program - Fish Demography Laboratory of the University of Liège - Belgium (Prof. J.C. Philippart). Electric fishing, tagging, sampling (size, weight, age...) 

Research work about the local species adaptation to intensive fish farming ; Barbel (Barbus barbus), Gudgeon (Gobio gobio) and red fish (Carassius carassius); reproduction induction (hormones, photo-régulation...), larviculture, grow-out, feeding... (Dr. Ch. Mélard). 

Learning the tilapia culture technology for intensive aquaculture, aplicated to a commercial fish station (S.A. Piscimeuse of the Gabriel society). Production of monosex tilapia population (sexual reversion). 

 

August 1987.
Organizing and participating to an Observation mission in Quebec in collaboration with the Agricultural, Fisheries and Alimentation Ministry of Quebec - Canada and the Brussels-Walloony-Quebec Agency: 
Cold water fish culture technology. 

Study of the re-introduction and conservation problem of the Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar). 

Making contacts to organize scientific and commercial cooperation between Quebec (Canada) and Waloony (Belgium) - Technological exchanges.
