The tambaqui or cachama: fish from
Amazonia.

The Cachama (in spanish) or the Tambaqui or Pacu (in Brazil) is a fish
originating from Amazon and Orinoco basins.
There are two species which are cultivated mainly
in Central and South America, the white one (Piaractus brachypomus)
and the black one (Colossoma macropomum) and their hybrids.

It's a fish which has an extraordinary growth and which can be adapted
to intensive breeding. The reproduction must be made in an artificial
way with hormone injection. This fish doesn't reproduce in a natural way
in fish culture ponds.
